Moonchild is an American alternative R&B band based in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of Amber Navran, Max Bryk, and Andris Mattson. All three are alumni of USC Thornton School of Music’s Jazz Studies program. The band formed in the summer of 2011 after touring the west coast with Navran’s previous solo project. The trio bonded in the car over similar music tastes and spent the summer and subsequent fall writing the music for what became their debut album Be Free, which would be released the following year.
The debut album was well received by critics, garnering praise from many musical greats including Jill Scott, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Stevie Wonder. After hearing the group’s music in December 2012, Wonder invited the group to open for him at his annual House Full of Toys benefit concert.[citation needed]
Since the release of Be Free in 2012, the band has released three more albums through British record label Tru Thoughts and toured internationally.
Emmavie is a singer/songwriter and producer from London whose music is an amalgamation of 90s R&B and her love for digital audio experimentation. Her debut received praise and support from the likes of superstar actor, Idris Elba, artist and producer, Phonte, spotlight platform, Colors, Okayplayer, BBC Radio and more. This release was closely followed by the 2020 release of “Toronto Vol. 1” EP with female collective Her Songs, and the re-release of “Epoch” EP with renowned UK Jazz musician, Alfa Mist.
Having released music with IAMNOBODI, Buddy, ROMderful, Alfa Mist, Nick Grant and Jay Prince and so many more, Emmavie is known for her passion for collaboration. As a result, she has had her music featured on Oprah Winfrey’s network produced series, “Queen Sugar” and MTV’s “Teen Mom US 2”.
Emmavie was scouted by legendary DJ and Fresh Prince of Bel Air star, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and flown out to his house in Delaware to spend a week making music with the likes of Mac Ayres, Robert Glasper and Redman as part of the Playlist Retreat.
Emmavie’s high profile performances have seen her share the stage with Mahalia, Eric Bellinger, Smino, Iman Omari, and The Internet front woman, Syd for Red Bull Music Academy’s Paths Unknown. Emmavie went on to support Playlist Retreat alumni, Masego and Moonchild on their European tours.
